Summary: The title, Hog Music, evoked less-than-pleasant ideas for me, but we really enjoyed following this story of a gift. After a family moves west, the little girl is sent a package containing a straw hat. The box is lost several times by its bearer and picked up to be carried closer to its destination. With each new carrier, a small gift is added. When the package finally reaches the little girl, all are surprised by its contents! In the end, the little girl receives the best gift of all – a visit from the sender.
Pros: Very colorful, interesting, clear illustrations. It was fun for the reader to know what each bearer and finally the recipient could never have figured out. I especially liked the thankfulness that the little girl expressed, even when the gift was not as she would have expected.
